A home is a place of sheer comfort and warmth. It’s the place that ultimately makes anyone feel relaxed after a tiring day of work. We all look forward to returning to our humble abode after being far away for a long time. Homes tend to get messy, at times disorganised or even dirty. But that will be transitory, you can always revamp it with decorative ideas making it more lively and welcoming. Today we will discuss the many ways of how you can keep your home cosy and peaceful even when it starts getting messy at times.

1. Add warmth to your home with lighting:

Lighting is considered the first tip to making your home cosy and adding warmth to your space! There is perhaps nothing more important than good lighting to create a cosy atmosphere. If you’re confused about how to design a warm room, start by thinking about your present lighting situation.

  • How many light sources are there in your room?
  • What is the design of each light? Do you like it?
  • Are the lights you are using warm or cool?

Remember to avoid any harsh and single overhead lighting as it can create dark shadows. Instead, make sure you have more task lighting, table and floor lamps, and ambience lighting added to your home.

2. Include more plants and flowers

If you haven’t added any plants to your home, you should really consider adding some right away! Plants give a really nice cosy atmosphere because they are living things. Do keep in mind that at some point your plants will get shrivelled and die but it’s part of the learning process which happens with a lot of seasoned gardeners too. Plants tend to be on the expensive side but there are many ways  you can save a lot of money and still get that budget-friendly cosy vibe

  • Learn to work around your existing plants
  • Ask for cuttings from your friends and family
  • Gather fallen succulent leaves from gardens, parks and propagate them

3. Use rugs to create definitions to spaces

Hardwood flooring is sustainable but tends to become very chilly under your feet in the cooler seasons. Same thing for marbles and tiles. You can create layers between various rooms and in the same room with rugs that will surely make you feel instantly warmer and cosier. In the bathroom and kitchen, you can also use rugs – many people are adding Persian rugs to accentuate their living spaces nowadays!

4. Add Curtains

Do you use sheers or blinds? To add an extra layer of cosiness in the winter, try swapping out your lighter weight curtains for some luxurious heavy drapes with thermal lining. They will not only help keep the heat out but will add extra softness and cosiness to the room.

5. Hang Artwork

Research shows that just by looking at art one can reduce stress and instantly cheer up. Hanging various kinds of artworks in your house helps instil an individual personality into the space. If you are unable to invest in original artwork, prints are always a good and economic way to go. The more you surround yourself with things that make you feel good, the more you’ll capture that feeling of home.
